I want to start with the feeling. My AXA Full Coverage claim for the car damage in Brisbane was paid in full and I felt so relieved. As a student traveling alone, seeing a few thousand AUD on a bill made me think my wallet was dead. It was around early May. I booked a Toyota RAV4 with ACE Rental Cars in Brisbane through QEEQ. It was an automatic, four doors, five seats. For just one person it felt pretty big. I remember picking up the car in the afternoon, around one or two. The sun was strong and I was thinking the car looked solid and safe. The first days were fine. I drove around the city and some nearby places. I felt kind of proud because the car was easy to drive and I was alone but doing okay. The real problem came one or two days before return, around the afternoon on the ninth. That day the road was not very busy. I was passing a narrow area and I was not fully focused. My brain was thinking about dinner and stuff. Then suddenly there was a loud hit on the right side. I got shocked. I stopped the car and checked. On the right side there was a clear scrape mark. The side mirror was damaged too. This was not a small scratch that you can ignore. It was very visible. I just stood there and stared at it. The more I looked, the more panic I felt. As a solo traveler I had no friend next to me to talk. It was just me mumbling quietly saying this is bad and the cost will be high. When I returned the car to ACE Rental Cars, I told the desk staff directly about the scrape and the broken mirror. They checked the car. I was standing beside them feeling really nervous. The staff was normal and just did what they needed to do. They took photos, wrote notes and told me there would be repair costs later. I kept nodding but in my head I was already counting how poor I would be after paying. After some time I received repair papers and cost info. When I saw the numbers I felt shocked again. The repair fee was more than 2800 AUD. There were extra charges like damage management fee and damage assessment fee, plus tax. The total was around 3213.4 AUD. In my mind that number was huge. My first thought was this is crazy. Then I remembered I had bought AXA Full Coverage. To be honest when I first bought it I only thought more insurance means more peace of mind. I did not study every detail. When this accident happened I finally understood how important this insurance is. I started to collect all the repair documents. I also got the bill from the rental company. We removed things that are not about car damage like child seat and credit card fee. Then the core car damage amount was repair cost 2806.28 AUD plus management fee and assessment fee and ten percent tax. The total came to about 3213.4 AUD. That number was stuck in my head and gave me a lot of stress. Even though I was scared, I still followed the steps and sent the documents. They asked me to confirm the amount and I changed the claim figure from the first higher level down to match the 2806.28 AUD repair amount plus the related fees. Those days I walked around thinking only about this money. I kept asking myself what I would do if the claim was not paid. The good thing was they stayed in touch and I did not feel abandoned. I just kept preparing what they needed. Inside my head I was very nervous but also a bit hopeful. When the amount was checked and set as 3213.4 AUD I stared at it on the screen and thought is this really going to be paid. It felt unreal. Later I confirmed the payout figure of 3213.40 AUD. At that moment I felt my body relax. When the money was actually paid to me and I saw the number in my account, my inner voice said one thing. I was so glad I had AXA Full Coverage or this time I would be totally crushed. For a student like me traveling alone, more than three thousand AUD is not a small problem. Having it fully covered changed everything. My mood went from near breakdown to feeling like life was okay again. When I look back at this whole thing, it feels like a very real lesson. At the start I was busy feeling cool about solo driving and the freedom. One scrape and a broken mirror showed me how serious responsibility and risk can be. The insurance did not only cover the repair. It also included the assessment and management fees and the tax. So in the end I did not have to pay that 3213.40 AUD by myself. For me it was like someone was quietly standing behind me and catching my biggest mistake on this trip.
